Architecture  Turn End Gardens  By: Peter AldingtonHaddenham, Bucks, England

Turn End Garden Documentation.

The three houses (The Turn, Middle Turn, Turn End) in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, were designed and built in the 1960s, with Peter and Margaret Aldington doing much of the building work themselves. They received the Architecture Prize of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1970.

The garden at Turn End, designed and realized by Peter as a natural extension of the house, grew with the buildings, maturing into a garden of international renown, gaining publicity through television programs and the numerous articles that have been written about him. At less than an acre, the space is used to create an illusion of size: patios with swimming pools, a small forest around old apple trees, a curved glade leading to a series of garden rooms (sunken or raised, sunny or shady , geometric or informal).
